Swedish Vallhunds New Zealand

Hi there!

Initially Greg and I lived in Wellington where I worked as a Registered Nurse and Greg an IT Project manager. We  both worked in Saudi Arabia at different times to each other andhave travelled extensively together.

Our first Vallhund, Cally (Valkrista Maid Marion) came to us in Wellington as a puppy in 2004 and  Sirius in 2005. Cally became our foundation bitch and won Best of Breed at the NZ Nationals in 2010.

We loved the breed so much that we decided to start breeding and showing and set up Torvall Swedish Vallhund Kennel in 2005.We have developed our breeding through the matriline -
Cally 4 litters
Bobbie 2 litters
Chala 1 litter

Greg and I shifted from Wellington to Hawkes Bay in late 2010 and Jack (Vallarity Cracker Jack), our stud dog, came to us early 2011. We have a rural lifestyle property with lots of room for the dogs to run and chase. Although I work part-time at a rural health centre I love spending time with the dogs and pottering in the garden. We have a small orchard so in the summer there is fruit to preserve or make relishes etc from.  Greg is our chef and cooks yummy meals which enables me to stay out in the garden in the summer until quite late!

I have recently taken up quilting :-)

I enjoy showing the dogs and have made lots of good friends through this. Our girls and Jack have done exceptionally well in the show ring with numerous Group age placings and 3 Best of Breed wins at the NZ Nationals.

Chala has won Best of Breed at the NZ Nationals two years running (2013 and 2014) and last year also won Best Intermediate of Group at the Nationals under Elizabeth Cartledge (UK) - an SV specialist.

We would like to thank and acknowledge  Rose Madsen of Valkrista Kennels  for the use of her stud dogs to sire our first two litters.  We also thank and appreciate Rose for her advice in the early years of our owning & raising Swedish Vallhunds.
Many thanks must go out to  Lynne Henry of Vallarity Kennels
for allowing Teddy to sire our third litter and Ricky to sire our fourth litter.  We also thank and appreciate Lynne
for recognising Cally's special qualities and for her support, advice & encouragement regarding conformation showing. We are happy to have had two of Lynne's pups as our stud dogs.  NZCH Vallarity Cracker Jack, and currently NZCH Vallarity Highland Fling.

Rhonan joined us on the 1 June 2015.  He is an affectionate, lovely natured little boy.
He carries the rare patriline, and we are delighted to continue our breeding programme with quality puppies, as well as contributing to the rare lines.
We own Rhonan in partnership with Lynne (Vallarity).

Bobbie was born on the 4th Sept 2009. She was the only pup in the litter and we very nearly lost her! However with much intensive care from both of us she thankfully survived!! Bobbie has the most wonderful nature - she is very cuddly, loves being social & is not at all concerned about bigger dogs - just loves to make friends with them :)
Bobbie did well in the show ring and is an NZ Champion.
Bobbie's first litter was with Jack as sire in 2012. We kept Chala (Torvall Crackling Rosie) from that litter.

Chala is from our 2nd generation of breeding. She is from the first litter of Bobbie & Jack. As soon as she was alert she would look for me & make eye contact - I felt I had a bond with her from the beginning.
She has the most wonderful nature - very loving but is also  independent & confident.
Her first show she just trotted around the ring like she had been there before and she has continued to really well at shows. Last year (2014) she won Best of Breed at the NZ Nationals for the second year running and also Best Intermediate of Group under Elizabeth Cartledge (UX & SV Breed Specialist).
Elizabeth complimented me out of the ring on Chala's conformation

This wonderful boy joined our pack early 2011. He is a fantastic mixture of cute n cuddly and naughty adolescent at present! Hard to stay mad at him for long :)  Even if he has chewed the handbrake in the car!!
Jack made his debut into the show ring on the 2nd & 3rd of April 2011. At his 1st show he took out Best of Breed ahead of his dad, Dexter & then got Baby Puppy of Group. In 2 more shows that weekend he also got Baby Puppy of Group & also Reserve of Breed. He has gone on to win numerous In Group awards and w as Reserve Dog of Breed & Baby Puppy of Breed at the 2011 Nationals. He was made a NZ Champion in January 2012.

Cally (Callisto) was our first Swedish Vallhund and arrived in Wellington on Christmas Eve 2005 as a present for Greg. She won our hearts immediately and is a wonderful, intelligent and loving friend.  Initially we bought Cally as a pet but after spending time with her we decided it would be great to have a litter by her.
Cally is also very good at obedience work winning Elementary 2 at her first major Obedience Competition  in May 09, in Wellington with 95% so will now go on to compete in the Special Beginners Class! Watching her listening for the commands you can tell that she is really enjoying herself and she has a wonderful rapport with Greg who owns and trains her.
In 2010 we started showing Cally at Conformance Shows & she is now an NZ Champion. Best of all she took out  Best of Breed at the NZ Nationals in 2010  & was a  Working Dog Group Finalist
Valkrista Byron Bilby

We bought Sirius as a playmate for Cally when she was a year old and before we decided to become breeders. As they had the same sire we had Sirius neutered. He has a very gentle nature & is a great ambassador for the breed and helped raise the first litter once they were mobile. Sirius has a bob tail :)
